Plane Layover Travel Experience Research & Design

︎︎︎UXUI

Project Brief

The Airline interface is designed according to the needs of travelers who have layovers between flights.
Worked and reviewed with Edenspeakermann.

Challenge

During plane layovers,  what are the biggest challenge to travellers and what solution could we provide?

Solution

Travelers met quing and way-finding problems. Provide clear visualization and map navigation through app interface to aid way-finding.

Strategy

 Surveys,
Consumer feedbacks,
User Journey Map,
User Persona,
Prototype design.

Most travelers Spend their time during layovers to do Wayfinding

I did a Public Survey and collected 32 public results. Most people mosly have layovers that last 1-3 hours and they are mostly on their phones.  They feel that the most stressful part of layovers would be quing and also find their way to important destination under a tight schedule.

Understand travelers while mapping out their User Journey.

Business traveller-Ken

Ken is a Business class traveler that used most of his time to relax, work and wayfinding during layover. He might feel fustrated and lost when he needs to find way to the correct gateway and planning according to his needs.

Exploring traveller-Jenny

As a exploring economy class traveler, Jenny uses her layovers to explore the city which requires her to leave and return to the airport in a tight time frame. She needs to go through security and passport controls when she come back from the short trip. Wayfinding would be challenging for her.

Her story

Jenny has a 15 hour layover in Incheon airport, and she is on her way back from the city tour. She needs to catch her next flight, thus on her way back, she plan ahead using the app which provides all informations like wayfinding, crowd levels and documents she needed.

Final UI

To tackle the concern of travellers, I designed an interface that have

Clear timeline  for travellers to plan ahead,
and provide instructions with visual aids.

About Me

Raised in Hong Kong and shaped by time in Los Angeles, I recently returned home with a cross-cultural perspective that informs my design approach. Most recently, I created marketing materials for a consumer products company, including email campaigns, promotional graphics, product videos, and visual assets—such as info and lifestyle images—for Amazon, the company website, and other marketplaces. I also take on freelance work, designing logos and animating logo intros for YouTube channels.

At the core of my practice is a deep interest in exploring meaning and value through design. I’m always in search of depth—creating work that not only looks good but also communicates purpose and resonates on an emotional level. With a strong passion for Packaging, Branding, and Motion, I approach each project with intention and empathy, aiming to craft visuals that are both impactful and meaningful. This mindset continues to drive my growth as a multi-disciplinary designer.
